Before you start rearranging the furniture and your home interior design, it is better to think first what style you prefer. If it is not too complicated to differ two extremes – traditional and contemporary, but it’s way tricky to catch the blurred line between transitional and those two, as it is believed to be just in-between of them.
Donny and Debbie Osmond are the classic “family-values” example to follow. Being the celebrity from the very childhood, Donny is closer to the masses all the time since he became a teen idol. However, the family and home are always playing the major part in the life of the couple. The milestone of the values comes usually from the family you grow in, and this is about Donny – he’s the one of the big family of nine children. Together with Debbie, they have already brought up five kids and several grandchildren!
Life-loving Donny has time for everything, and the vigor brought him to collaboration with the Coaster Furniture to create the furniture collections inspired by the key value – family.
We, the Furniture Pick team, would like to take you on the trip to Florence this Saturday, while introducing similarly-named collection by Donny Osmond Home. Full of simple romantic tones, still charming and classic, Florence collection makes a statement in every home. Inspired by Vintage British classical design with grand scale and beautiful architectural columns and matching details, the bedroom set makes your major bedroom a cozy divine place to relax. You are welcome to complete it with the few furniture pieces to make it a complete style: nightstands, vanity desk with the chair, dresser or chest.
If you enjoy working at home or you are extremely busy (we bet, still less than Donny!), set a statement of your success with the Florence Double Pedestal Home Office Set. Fully loaded and designed to create a professional atmosphere for your work space. Its vintage rustic finish and architectural design details bring elegance and warmth to your home. Make your own style of a cabinet room while choosing extra furniture, versatile to enjoy and functional for your best performance – bookcase or cabinet, kneehole credenza or credenza with the hutch.
How to make a great dining space for the family? Communication spot, place to enjoy a good dinner with a glass of wine. It will taste much better with the spirit of “family and home” of the Osmonds. The Florence Rectangular Dining Room Set is crafted of solid pine and mahogany wood and is beautifully finished in a warm natural wood with a light gray glaze finish. Table planks are individually rough sawn with old fashion finger joint construction. Modern shaped elegantly upholstered side chairs are tufted with individually hand applied nailhead trim offered in beige or light grey fabric.
While creating the collections, Osmond family tries to find the style that appeals to everyone, no matter whether it is the city or country home. Debbie always searches for the modern trends before getting inspiration, keeps finger on the pulse. Donny says that he knows that everybody’s tastes are different, so they try to keep the style simple and neutral in colors as possible, for it to fit in many different places and give many options to make accents with decoration. Still, the high quality matches the affordability, which is of great importance.
Let us start today with going back in history. Once upon a time… Well.., not that long, we will cut it short! Have you ever thought of the names for the bed sizes? We bet that if someone is asked to give ideas on the etymology of the names for King and Queen beds they will likely say that bigger beds were for the Kings and smaller for the Queens to sleep in. Not that easy! So, few lines from history for you.
The first bed, familiar to the one we sleep in, appeared during the times of Roman Empire. Before those times, beds were constructed of straw, leaves or animal skins spread on the ground. Further beds were becoming bigger and more decorated during the times of Renaissance and Louis XIV. But Kings & Queens used to sleep in smaller beds than we do now, because the smaller the bed – the easier it is to preserve body heat. Don’t forget, they used to have the fireplace only to keep them warm. Even in 1940s Americans used to sleep on twin or double beds, just before the mattress industry introduced the names for the bigger mattresses bringing more comfort to sleeping experience – and here it comes with the names for the beds accordingly!
Speaking of queen-size beds, we have to confess that size is not the only one thing you have to know about this type of bed. And we are here to give you a short guidance on the subject:
Dimension: Standard Queen beds are 80 inches long by 60 inches wide. Which is exactly the size of the beds introduced by Simmons Company in 1958, calling it in press a bed that “fits for queens”.
Other sizes of Queen beds: Yes, they do come in few more sizes!
- California Queen or often called the Queen XL or extra long – comes with 4 inches extra to the length instead of the standard 80 inches.
- Olympic Queen, also known as expanded queen, is 6 inches wider, with the final dimensions of 66×80.
- Split Queen has the same dimensions as the standard one, but the mattress is split into two separate ones, each 30×80. Also named super queen.
Mattresses depth varies from 9 to 16+ inches, so you have to keep it in mind when choosing the right bed and the good mattress to fit. Sometimes manufacturers offer pockets that are 22 inches deep, making it easy to keep sheets in place.
By the way, speaking of the sheets! Most queen sheet sets come for the standard queen-size beds, and no more than 15 inches deep, you may face difficulties when finding the right size bed sheets for Olympic and California Queens. But, no worries, if you are looking for it, you will definitely find the correct size, as there are even some companies that manufacture queen-sheets with deep pockets for the mattresses up to 22 inches.
If you have any more questions you are welcome to address them to our team of Furniture Pick! We hope our Queen Beds guide is helpful to you and we have almost answered all the basic questions about the queen sized beds.
